Kolkata, Sep 1 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): For the Father of the Nation it was a weapon to fight the British. For greens it is the in-thing. Fashion designers call it profits while the poor weavers call it survival.
Khadi, the quintessential fibre, which has evolved over time, is all set to adorn the Indian wardrobe this month when a three-day fashion extravaganza begins here on Sept 10.

“Fashion in our country is not going to go anywhere if the weavers-the true masters of the trade-are not involved,” fashion designer Riyaz Gangjee told reporters on Tuesday.
Upholding the weavers’ cause, designer James Ferreira said,’’Fashion in our country is not going to go anywhere if the grassroots workers are not involved.’’
In tune with the motto of the United Nations that has dedicated the year 2010 to ‘’Save the Weavers’’ from the clutches of poverty, the Indian Fashion Carnival will have a segment named ‘’Weavers Village’ where weavers from across Bengal will work wonders with the Gandhian thread.
Director, Mindscapes One, Pratik Sen, said, ‘’Mindscapes Group of Companies have always been a promoter of weaves and weavers and this time they have all come together in the weavers village.’’
“The fashion fiesta this time will be more than just glamour event and is hoping to do good business,’’ he added.
