India submits list of anti-insurgent groups camping inside the Bangladesh

Kolkata, Sept 28, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): India has submitted a list of hideouts of anti-India insurgent groups  camping inside the Bangladesh territory with documentary evidences, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Raman Srivastava said on Monday.

Returning from Dhaka, after attending the six-day biannual director general level meeting with his counterpart Major general Rafiul Islam, the Director General of Bangladesh Rifles, the BSF chief said that the BDR had responded this time and assured to try and find out if any such “elements” are there.

He, however, admitted for the past two years the Bangladesh authorities had been very cooperative to counter the anti-socials for greater interests of both the nations.

During the meetings it was decided that both the countries would conduct surveys to earmark the “adverse possession” areas, like Bangladesh territory in India and Indian terretory in Bangladesh and settle the dispute at an early stage to ease tensions in the border areas.

The Joint Boundary Working group, which was formed in late 1970s but was dormant, had been asked recently to start survey work.

It was also decided to start joint patrolling in the border areas to contain smuggling, human trafficking and other crimes through the porous common border stretching for about 44,000 kms.

Mr Srivastava said smuggling of fake currency was another major crime the BSF was aware of saying about 87 lakh of rupees had been seized in the past six years.

He said the BSF would approach the Union Home ministry to enact a stringent law so that “touts” involved in carrying fake currency trade are given exemplary punishment.

He said about 30 per cent fake currency carriers were women and children employed by the hardcore criminals for the purpose.
