Panaji, December 5, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Eminent actress Illa Arun, who plays the role of Om Puri’s wife in ‘West is West’ movie, said that she is excited to walk the red-carpet at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2010.
West is West’, a comedy flick is the inaugural movie to be screened today evening. “We have walked red-carpets in other film festivals and it is a different feeling to walk for IFFI. Film critics have applauded the film as a better movie that its prequel ‘East is East’,” she said.
The movie has been shown in Toronto, Abu Dabi and London film festivals so far. “The festivals have been encouraging and supportive. The response for the movie was enormous and people liked it,” the actress, who plays Khan No 2 in the movie, said.
The film is scheduled for release in theaters on February 27, 2011. The cross-culture movie starring Aquib Khan, Linda Bassett, Jimi Mistry besides Arun and Om Puri picks up where 1999-produced ‘East is East’ ends.
This movie documented the conflicts of a mixed-race Pakistani-English family and won a BAFTA for outstanding British film.
Arun said that the movie speaks women’s pain and hence it should be screened globally especially in Asian countries. “This movie is meant for everyone especially women. Since I play the role of Om Puri’s wife back in Pakistan, I am certain that Pakistani women will love me,” she smiled.
The actress considers Om Puri as a role model.
