Kolkata/Ludhiana, Dec 26, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Chirag United returned to win and struggling Mohun Bagan scripted their first win as the two Kolkata outfits playing their fifth round play of the I-Leauge at different region grabbed full points on Thursday.
Playing an away match at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana Manish against JCT, Maithani heralded his return with a bang to give Mohun Bagan first win in five matches. He was for out of play for foot injuries.
Manish Maithani, who came to Bagan’s rescue with his shot finding the target from the top of the 18 yard box in the 67th minute after stalemate prevailed over the first forty-five minutes.
Maithani was later adjudged the ‘’Man of the Match’’ for his superb performance in the midfield. Bagan now have 5 points from five matches, while JCT are struggling at the bottom of the table with one point from as many matches.
It was Subash Bhowmick’s second game for Mohun Bagan as technical director after chief coach Stanly Rozario quit following 0-2 defeat to Churchill Brothers in the third round.
Former East Bengal coach Bhowmick had debut as technical director for the mariners against Dempo in the previous game which saw 2-2 draw.
Chirag United edged past HAL, Bangalore, by a solitary goal at Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
Jerry Zirsanga netted the winning goal at the stroke of the half time as Chirag moved a place up in the table to collect 8 points from five matches.
Man of the Match, Lal Kamal Bhowmick essayed a pass to former Dempo SC midfielder to do the rest.
This was CU first win after being held by Air India and Pune FC in the previous games.
