Himachal budget deferred to March 12

Shimla, March 4 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has deferred presentation of the state’s annual budget for 2010-11 in the assembly and will now table it March 12, a minister said here Thursday. Earlier, it was scheduled March 9.

‘The budget presentation was re-scheduled due to Dhumal’s preoccupation with a Planning Commission meeting in New Delhi. He will now present the budget March 12,’ Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.P. Nadda told IANS.

The budget session that began March 2 would have 26 sittings. It would conclude April 13.

Dhumal, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present his eighth budget.

In his previous tenure as chief minister from 1998 to 2003, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader had presented five budgets.

Himachal Pradesh’s economy is largely dependent on horticulture, hydroelectric power and tourism.
