Kolkata, October 3, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): Sensational young Bengali talents of “Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstars“, a music reality show, rocked the city on Friday. Kolkata’s rising singers- Dipannita Chowdhury, Bisakh Jyoti, Sreyasi Chakraborty and Mampi Nair -have made it to the top 12 to compete for the coveted title of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar.
Dippanita Chakraborty, the winner of Zee Bangla Sa re Ga Ma Pa Bishwasera 2008 said: “Being an M.A in music I have a soft corner for classical music. As I love to sing, so genre does not matter; music is my soul. Jayanta Sarkar is my guru and now Sajid-Wajid are my mentors. But all other mentors also give tips and advice on singing…what more can I expect!”
Does she misses singing Bengali songs?
“Yes, I miss Bangla gaan and Bangla kotha a lot. So, we who are Bengalis, converse in our mother tongue among us on the sets”, said the Bishwera 2008.
Any ill effects of participating in reality shows?
“Not at all. Reality shows are platforms which boost a person’s morale. So participating in such events helps a lot,” she said.
She signed off singing “Bajlo Tomar Alor Benu…”, an appreciable song in the forthcoming Durga Puja.
Meanwhile, another participant Bisakh Jyoti said: “I am the only male participant representing Kolkata, which brings a lot of pressure on my shoulders. You need to perform well, to stay among the best. Right now I am learning music fromPandit Sanjay Chakraborty and Reshmi Chakraborty”.
Asked about his toughest competitors, he said. “Ranjit, Kamal Khurram. But trully speaking, everyone on that platform is a tough competition”.
“The top 10 will get contracts from Zee TV and the remaining last three will get a lifetime chance to be a part of A.R. Rahman’s institute and will also be able perform with him on his World tours”, said the Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa first runner up.
“Much determination and self confidence is needed to perform in front of the emperors of music. But the judges are really helpful, one can learn much by staying beside them. They often take us to their studios to teach the technical aspects of playback singing”.
Mampi Nair, another talent from Kolkata to make it to the Singing Stars, said, “My guru is Subir Chakraborty and at present I am pursuing musical training from Ustaad Rashid Khan. I prefer to sing classical, gazals and romantic songs”.
While talking about the musical hunt, she said, “This is a very honourable platform. Each and every singer is very talented . So, performance matters the most. Recently, I did an album on the ‘Memories of Asha ji’, but it does not mean that I have achieved the zenith. I am learning day by day and need to improve a lot. This is what I believe.”
Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is one of the biggest popular talent hunt shows on Indian television. The show is a fine blend of its glorious heritage with the flair and vibrancy of today’s time.
In this new avatar of ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstars’, young geniuses Vishal- Sekhar, Sajid- wajid and Daler Mehandi are the mentors. They are nurturing and guiding the talents to become upcoming rockstars.
