Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited is prepped up and ready to go into theatres with an entertaining film for the entire family. The Bengali film is Handa and Bhonda, starring Mithun Chakraborty and the child artiste Aritra as father and son. The bonding between Mithun and Aritra grew when Mithun was judging a dance reality show for children and Aritra was the principal anchor. This show was produced for Zee Bangla. The idea of making a film featuring these two was born then. Other children are also involved including the chubby little Bittoo who retains part of his naïve innocence despite the glare of the media that is always on him. He made his small screen debut in a reality show.

Based on a concept by Subhankar Chatterjee who is making his bow as director with Handa and Bhonda, the story and script have been crafted by Padmanavo Dasgupta, known for his ability to tackle intelligent comedy and entertaining humour. “When I was a child myself, I was fascinated by films that involved children in a big way such as Satyajit Ray’s Sonar Kella. So, when I decided to turn director, I felt the need to make a film involving children which would also carry a message for adults among the audience. This concept provided the right platform and I felt Mithun-da and Aritro had just the right chemistry to carry it off,” said Chatterjee.

Aritro, around ten now, expressed joy at sharing screen space with his favourite hero he calls M.G. an acronym for Maha Guru, which he uses to address Mithun Chakraborty. “One special attraction for me was, it gave me the chance to act with my Supriya (Devi) Dida whose name I have heard since I began to talk. Poran (Banerjee) Dadu and Biswajit (Chakraborty) Dadu are the other veteran actors I feel honoured to have shared screen space with,” says Aritro with a serious face that expresses a wisdom and maturity beyond his tender years. The story has a very amusing twist half way through but letting out the secret would spoil the fun. Suffice to say that the film has music, an interesting storyline, amusing and sad situations and a touch of magic realism.

The film has some melodious songs, thanks to the imaginative creation of Surajit Chatterjee, one of the lead singers of Bhoomi, a famous Bangla band that has performed across the world. Premendu Bikash Chaki has cinematographed the film and Arghya Kamal Mitra has edited it. Handa and Bhonda is being distributed by T.Sarkar productions and is lined up for an April release.
