Gujrat displays myriad colours through tourism road show

Kolkata, July 19 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Gujarat displayed its vibrant culture and urged Bengali tourists to “breathe in a bit of Gujarat” through a Road Show on tourism in the state on Monday.

While promoting the tourism industry of Gujarat through their campaign “Khusboo Gujarat ki”( scent of Gujarat), for which Amitabh Bachchan has been hired as the brand ambassador, the Tourism Corporation showcased several attractions to woo the people of Bengal.

Chairman of Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Kamlesh Patel said that “Gujarat has its own special image” and it is high time for investors to place their bets on Gujarat tourism.

“If you want to invest then this is the right time,” he remarked.

Gujarat, which has witnessed a staggering rise of tourists from 60 lakhs to 1.7 crores in the past few years, offers something for everyone.

From religious heritage sites like the Somnath temple to the Gir Sanctuary housing the Asiatic lions or even places like the Sabarmati Ashram, which once had the presence of Mahatma Gandhi, Gujarat has spent nearly 1200 crores in infrastructure development.

Kamlesh added to that by stating that “nearly Rs 650 crores of investment is to be made for as many as 37 projects for tourism in Gujarat.”

The Tourism Corporation  promoted a new hill spot in Saputara along with the beaches in the 1600 km long coastline and also wildlife tourism as a part of their eco-tourism programme.

Gujarat has adopted a public private partnership model for development of tourism in the state.

While commenting on the issue, Principal Secretary of Tourism and Civil Aviation of Gujarat IAS Vipul Mitra said, “Combination of public and private sectors has helped tourism greatly.”

The Tourism Corporation of the state, which is famous for its colourful festivals, announced several upcoming attractions like Tarnetar Fair, Navaratri festival, the Global Bird Watcher’s Conference and the Rann Utsav.
