Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Friday, July 30, 2010 — (Calcutta Tube) : The Kotler-Srinivasan Center for Research in Marketing at Great Lakes Institute of Management Chennai, a leading management institute in the country founded by Prof. Bala V Balachandran, hosted the First International 2-day Conference on Business Analytics on 30th and 31st July, 2010 at the Great Lakes campus, Manamai. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Jagdish Sheth, a renowned marketing expert and the keynote speaker was Mr. Chandra Sekaran, President & Managing Director, Global Delivery, Cognizant.
The key objectives of the program were to facilitate research and research-based knowledge on the growing field of Analytics, to discuss new methodologies in the emerging field of Analytics, specifically with respect to those methodologies that have been tried and tested in the business context and to uncover possible collaborative potential between academia and industry with respect to Analytics.
Industry experts from various companies like Cognizant, Mindtree, Symphony, IBM, HP, DELL, Genpact, Fidelity, Meritus and Latent View shared their experiences and research findings in this conference. Also, academic experts from Universities in India and abroad presented their views and research papers.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. Bala V Balachandran, Founder & Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management said “Business Analytics is the need of the hour as businesses can optimize a distinct business capability via analytics. It focuses on developing an understanding of business performance based on data and statistical methods to drive decision making and profit for any organization.”

Xavier, Director – PGPM and Director – Kotler-Srinivasan Center for Research in Marketing added “The innovations and trends of business analytics spanning the areas of process, new technologies, user interface design, and system integration are being driven by business value and is evolving continuously. The Business Analytics Conference will provide a platform to discuss the way forward and pave way to new ideas.”
Dr. Jagdish Sheth stressed the need to go beyond numeric data analysis as more and more text, voice and video data get accumulated in corporate data warehouses. He also highlighted the potential of analytics in diverse fields such as medicine, criminology, e-governance and bio-technology.
