Kolkata, Sept 11 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): Invoking tradition and modernity, the Sindoor-smeared ‘brides’ of Bengal scorched the ramp clad in Aslam Khan collection at the ‘Gitanjali Lifestyle Kolkata Couture Fashion Week 2010’ here on Friday.
“I have always put great emphasis on make-up and hairdo when doing a collection. Since its a bridal one, I wanted to give it a quintessential Bengali touch with a jura and a red bindi on the forehead.
“The collection is extremely wearable with the price range starting from Rs 10,000 and going upto Rs 18,000.” designer Aslam Khan told IBNS on the sidelines of the show.
Complete with embroidery and sequin work on a soft colour palette of sea green, fushia, mauve and light pink, the collection was a perfect blend of tradition and modernity.
The evening also showcased a beautiful collection by ace designer Argun Agarwal.
“The designs have been created to complement women’s sensuality and add a touch of fashion. Vivid colours have been stitched together to impart a fresh feel to the attires,” the designer said.
“The collection draws a lot of inspiration from origami. PLeats, cowls, necklines and sleeves have been exaggregated and reconstructed with drapes running around them in perfect harmony,” he added.
From short dresses to flowing gowns, from classic black to Olive Greens, from Victorian volume to modern chic the collection was a culmination of elegance and grandeur.
The fashion week, which kickstarted Thursday and ends on Sunday, has several famous designers like Neeta Lulla, Agnimitra Paul, Debarun Mukherjee, Komal Sood, Anju Modi and Archana Kocchar participating.
