Former Ranji pacer Durga Shankar Mukherjee dies in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 3 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS)  Former Bengal’s Ranji Trophy medium-pacer Durga Shankar Mukherjee died at his north Kolkata residence on Thursday.

Mukherjee (78) had been suffering for quite some time for various ailment due to old age problem.

Mukherjee, who was awarded the Kartick Bose Lifetime Achievement Award by Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in 2007, had played for both Bengal and Railways from 1958 to late 1969. After playing two seasons in Bengal, he switched over to Railways.

In all he took 88 wickets in 23 Ranji trophy matches. His best performance was eight sclaps against 46 runs versus Bihar in Jamshedpur in 1959-60.
