Mayyur relives Victorian and Mughal era in Kolkata. The designer is in the city with his mother Riimple to showcase his latest creations on Friday night talks to Supriyo Hazra.
Why did you decide to arrange this fashion show in Kolkata?
I have always wanted to come here. My favourite designers Anamika and Sabyasachi Mukherjee are from here and I really loved to be in this city.
Tell us some thing on the theme of your show?
The name of the show is ‘Journey’. It depicts the journey of women. You can find the glimpses of Mughal and Victorian era in my designs. The touch, style shades will be from the Victorian era while the embroidery will depict the Mughal era. I feel that the designs depicted by them are truly time less fashions. They will never get out of fashion. More over through my works I want to bring back the thread embroidery.
What colours have you mostly used in your collections this time?
You will see the use of colours like pink, fawn. It is the journey of a woman that is depicted here. So I have used colours by keeping in mind that how a 22 years old woman is going to wear the forms and shape and at the same time how a newly marries woman or a club going woman is going to wear the dresses.
What fabrics have you used in your designs?
I have mostly used fabrics like Georgette, Net and others.
Tell us something on your upcoming projects?
I have just returned from Dubai. After this show, I will be going to Dubai again for the Dubai Fashion Fiesta.
