New York, Jan 23 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): Veteran American singer Etta James passed away on Friday after fighting a long battle with leukemia. She was 73.
She died at the Riverside Community Hospital in California.
Besides leukemia, she also suffered from diabetes, kidney problems and dementia.
James stole the hearts of her listeners with popular numbers like “Dance With Me, Henry”, “At Last”, “Tell Mama”, and “I’d Rather Go Blind”.
She bagged six Grammy Awards in her career.
James was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
Singer Bryan Adams tweeted: “Etta James…one of the best voices of all time…RIP.”
Songwriter Nile Rodgers posted on Twitter: “When I was a kid, I remember walking all the way to Flash Record Shop in LA to buy a 45 rpm single by Etta James RIP.”
Singer Mariah Carey called James as one of the most ‘influential’ singers in the world: “Rest in peace to one of the world’s most influential singers Etta James, you will be missed.”
