Kolkata, May 7 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Knowing they cannot slip any further, title contenders Salgaocar SC take on Kolkata’s Mohun Bagan in the I-League at the Salt Lake Stadium Kolkata on Sunday.
While Salgaocar has 46 points from 22 matches, Mohun Bagan are in the 6th position with 30 points from 23 matches.
Salgaocar were comfortably placed at top of the table a few rounds back, but three losses in their last four matches now sees them ahead of East Bengal and Dempo SC by just two points. But one needs to remember, Salgaocar has played a match more than the both.
Coach Karim Bencherifa wasn’t much willing to calculate about the present situation. “Mohun Bagan are a good side and holds an edge tomorrow as it’s their home-match. But we have little option but to win. My team consists of young players and we will fight till the end,” he said.
Mohun Bagan on the other hand came back to winning ways in their last match when they blanked Air India 2-0.
The injury worries still continue for Technical Director Subhas Bhowmick as Jose Barreto, Dipak Mondal won’t be available on Sunday.
Mohun Bagan will take heart from their victories against the Goan side this season. While Bagan had won 3-1 in the first round of the I-League, they had routed Salgaocar 6-1 in the Federation Cup.
Needless to mention, both East Bengal and Dempo will keeping a close eye on the match.
