Kolkata, Nov 2, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): East Bengal on Tuesday announced their All Stars squad with former international defender Sudhir Karmakar as captain to play an exhibition match against All Stars FC Bayern Munich at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on November 17.
Naming a tentative 33-member squad, former international striker Surojit Sengupta said the players, who served the club during 70s, 80s and early 90s have been chosen to face the European giants, which consist of 6 to 7 World Cuppers.
The charity play is being organised jointly by East Bengal and Towards Life foundation (TLF), a nongovernmental organisation, for the welfare of the city street children. The proceeds of the charity match would go for welfare of the TLF supported street children.
TLF chairman R C Banerjee said FC Bayern agreed to play with their all-stars for benefit of the underprivileged children.
Ex-India medio Gautam Sarkar, the vice-captain, said, “We will play to our best against the best veterans of the European continent so that our children find fun by watching the game.”
Sarkar said the former EB players would also contribute Rs 50,000 towards welfare fund for TLF children.
