East Bengal destroy Mohammedan Sporting 5-0: Kolkata Football League

Kolkata, Sept 13 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS): Ten-man East Bengal decimated their traditional rivals Mohammedan Sporting 5-0 to script four straight win and retained the pole position in the Sahara Premier Division Calcutta Football League at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Monday.

East Bengal went into the lead inside six minutes when Harmanjot Singh Khabra snatched from Dipendy Biswas and sent left footer to beat Md Sporting goalkeeepr Priant Singh at far post.

After the breather the red and gold pumped four goals- Robin Singh (2) and one each from captain Soumit Dey and substitute Tolgay Ozebe – despite they reduced to ten-man after mercurial Nigerian  Penn Orji was given marching order by the refree in the first half.

Penn Orji was shown a yellow card for rough tackling on M Hassan  in the 34th minute and a minute later he handled the ball.

But as referee Tushar Kanit Guha while trying to caution him, he nearly head butted him, who flashed the red card to reduce East Bengal with ten men.

After the breather East Bengal playing their last match here before going to play Federation Cup, controlled the game and destoyed  the black and white squad with precision soccer to pump four more
goals.

Left winger Robin Singh, a teenager from Noida, stole the limelight hurling two goals in quick succession. His first goal came two minutes into the second half when goalkeeper Priyant Singh failed to hold his powerful left footer. Five minutes later he dribbled past the golie with sheer speed from a Naoba Singh through pass.

After his brace coach Trevor James Morgan called back the striker to give him rest for Federation Cup challenge, bringing Tolgay Ozebe, an Australian, to test his mettle.

Mohammedan Sporting, coached by Syed Nayeemuddin, were looked helpless after three goals deficit. Despite several attempts the goal was illusive for them. Poor markmahsip was the main reason for Md Sporting’s frustrating game against an all out play from the rivals.

Dipendu Biswas
, who scored a goal in every game Mohammedan Sporting played in last three matches, was unlucky not to get one today when his right footer hit the cross-piece after beating East Bengal goalkeeepr Jayanta Paul.

East Bengal buttressed their tally by goals of captain Soumik Dey and Tolgay as Md Sporting conceded big defeat in recent time.

This was East Bengal’s second big win after thrasing Tollygunje Agragami in the opener.

They pumped sixteen goals in four games collecting twelve points, five points adrift of holders Mohun Bagan, runners up Chirag United and Md Sprting, who all played four games so far.
