Dog show in Kolkata to make people sensitive to stray dogs

Kolkata, Jan 31 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): A special dog show was organized in the city on Sunday to make people sensitive to the cruelty and neglect towards the stray dogs.
“We feel so much about our foreign dogs but hardly care about our local dogs. We want that through this event people will realize about the need of protecting the stray dogs and at the same time understand the usefulness of keeping a dog,” Tapas Sengupta, conveynor of the  Bidhannagar Mela Dog Show 2011, said.
Popular TV actor Ritabhari Chakraborty, said: “I am a dog lover and I feel that it is a crime to hurt the stray dogs and I feel that people should try to protect them.”
Ritabhari said that she herself has two dogs named ‘Tobi’ and ‘Google’.
The dog show was organized by Bidhannagar Mela Dog Show Committee at the Bidhannagar Sports Ground as a part of the 20 days long ‘Bidhannagar Mela’ (Bidhannagar Fair).
From dogs of smaller varieties like Chihuahua, Pug, Pomeranian to familiar dogs like Labrador, German Shepherds, Saint Bernards, a total number of 200 dogs participated in the event.
