Documentaries not popular in Germany: Director Jo Baier

Panaji, Dec 1 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Director of the film “The End is My Beginning”, Jo Baier has said that he loves to make films on different aspects of human life and enjoys making documentaries.

Baier stated that most of his films are art films and wondered whether they could be described as hardcore main stream cinema.

In Germany also, though documentaries are not attracting huge audiences in comparison to main stream cinema, there are still people who appreciate this genre and very good documentaries are being made, he added.

He was speaking to media persons at a press conference at IFFI here today.

Jo Baier had visited India earlier for one of his films shot in Rajasthan. He is in the field of direction since 1979 and has won many awards including Adolf Grimme prize and the Bavarian TV award which he has received more than once. ‘Wildfeuer’, ‘Operation Valkyrie’, ‘Not all were Murderers’ are some of his award winning films.

In the film “The End is My Beginning”, Tiziano Terzani, Spiegel magazine’s Asia correspondent and author, invites his son Folco to his retreat, northwest of Florence. Tiziano is suffering from cancer and wants to tell his son the story of his life in the remaining time.
