US based Indian-American journalist Devasish Ray introduces Databazaar Media Ventures and the team of the Bengali movie ‘Ekti Tarar Khonje’ at the North America Bengali Conference (NABC) 2010, New Jersey. The senior journalist talks about DMV’s initiatives about bringing quality Bengali films to the North American audience.
“Databazaar Media Ventures, the media part of the Databazaar group of companies, inspires releases and distribution of the latest quality Bengali movies in US and Canada,” introduces Devasish, one of the founding directors of the business organization.
The other founding directors of DMV are Florida based Bengali filmmaker Suman Ghosh, film distributor Arijit Dutta, Oney Seal, who is also the owner and CEO of Databazaar Media Ventures.
DMV started the promotion of Bengali films in North America with Suman Ghosh‘s ‘Dwando’ starring Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Koushik Sen, Ananya Chatterjee, Samrat Chakrabarty. DMV’s following ventures were Aparna Sen’s ‘The Japanese Wife’, Abhik Muhkopadhyay’s ‘Ekti Tarar Khonje’, Atanu Ghosh’s ‘Angshuman er Chhobi, Riingo’s ‘Jodi Ekdin’.
Devasish Ray describes Databazaar Media Ventures’ initiative to promote Bengali films among NRIs as a movement to grow concern about the availability of quality Bengali films that users can buy, rent or download.
‘Dwando’, the first Bengali movie for which Databazaar acquired rights, was the very first Bengali movie to available on iTunes. The film was subsequently followed by ‘The Japanese Wife.’ All Databazaar films will be available at 19,000 retail outlet stores like Netflix, Amazon, Best Buy, etc in North America.
Recently ‘Dwando’ has been released at the online streaming site Dingora.com.
Databazaar is also fighting against piracy in all retail and digital circuits by protecting the intellectual property rights.
Part of Databazaar’s distribution model includes promotions of its films in partnership with various Bengali associations of North America. Some of the organizations are Probasi, Sanskriti, Durgabari Houston.
