Kumartuli, or Kumortuli, is a potters’ quarter in northern Kolkata whose artisans are known across the state and even overseas for their skills in making idols of Hindu gods.
Akzonnobel has offered paint worth Rs 4 lakhs to the artisans for painting 4,000 idols of Goddess Durga along with a supply of white chalk, worth Rs 1 lakh.
Speaking at the occasion Deb remarked, “It is a great initiative on the part of Dulux (a part of Akzonobel India), to support Kumartuli artisans.”
Akzonobel Eastern Manager Santosh Kumar said, “This year, the special touch we bring is that we will not only donate free, premium paint for idol painting but we will also paint the streets where the artisans live. This is our Durga Puja gift to the artisans of Kumartuli.”
