Bean & Leaf Café/Roastery in New London will be featuring “Pather Panchali” by Satyajir Ray in a Tuesday-evening series of of foreign films. Some of the other movies in this special sceering event are “City of God” by Fernando Meirelles (2002), “La Strada” by Federico Fellini (1954), “The White Balloon” by Jafar Panahi (1995) and more.
Chhaya Chhobi is a Bengali movie under production by renowned directed Kaushik Ganguly who has chosen Rituparbo Ghosh to do the lead role. Kaushik Ganguly has previously done a telefilm “Ushno Tar Jonyo” on lesbianism. Homosexuality is never accepted in India. Kaushik Ganguly wants to explore the emotional sides of a man who is attracted to other men.
Arin Paul is one of the most challenging upcoming film directors in Tollywood and the founder of the “Bangla TeleFilm Club” which is the first telefilm club in the world. This young director has made many different types of films starting from ad films to documentary films. In Arin’s first film “Dosh Ta Dosh”, Soumitra Chattopadhyay, played the role of a don and danced in an item song for the first time in his career. It is the Tollywood King Prosenjit who will be seen as the very famous detective Byomkesh Bakshi (created by author Sharadindu Bandopadhyay) in multiple upcoming film series by Rituparno Ghosh. A full featured film on Byomkesh Bakshi was last done by Satyajit Ray in 1967. Uttam Kumar played Byomkesh in one of the most intriguing Byomkesh story in the movie. The movies will be produced by Rose Valley Productions.
