Crashed plane’s black box found

Mangalore (Karnataka), May 23 (Calcutta Tube) The black box of the crashed Air India Express plane has been found, police and airport sources said Sunday.

The black box – the digital cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder – which gives crucial inputs to investigators on the causes of air mishaps – was located by a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) team which joined the local police Sunday morning to search for it.

However, a formal announcement is to be made by the DGCA.

AI Express, on a flight from Dubai to Mangalore, burst into flames after falling 300 metres down a cliff after overshooting the Mangalore runway early Saturday morning, killing 158 of the 166 on board.
