CPI-M observes 12 hr shutdown in south Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 29  (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) A 12-hour shutdown was observed by the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) in south Kolkata’s Baghajatin area on Saturday to protest the clash a day ago with Trinamool Congress activists, leaving many injured.

There was no untoward incident till afternoon during the day as large parts of south Kolkata around Baghajatin remained paralysed.
The shutdown was called in the area   following the clash over the election of a chairman of a Borough Committee in the area.
The police  baton-charged to disperse the violent political activists of both the sides in Borough 11 and 12 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area on Friday.
Many, including several policemen, were injured in the clash. A police vehicle was also damaged.
The injured included some councillors.

The clash broke out in the morning in the area which falls under the assembly constituency of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
