Court questions police on Dutch women’s rape

New Delhi, July 7 (Calcutta Tube) The Delhi High Court Wednesday sought a reply from police on a bail application filed by a man accused of raping two Dutch women in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi.

The accused, along with an accomplice, posed as a tourist guide in the capital before taking them to Kashmir.

Justice A.K. Pathak asked police to file their reply by Aug 30 on Yasir Altaf’s plea.

A lower court July 3 rejected the bail plea of Altaf on the ground that the investigation in the case was still at a nascent stage.

The youth from Kashmir was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by one of the two Dutch women who were allegedly raped by him. The complaint was filed in the Connaught Place police station.

The woman alleged that Altaf and one of his associates, Omar Baktoo, posing as tourist guides, raped them several times.

The duo, aged 24 and 23 years, reached India in January with a view to tour several cities. They checked into a hotel in Paharganj in the heart of the capital. Altaf and his accomplice met them in Connaught Place, the city centre.
