Fatehabad (Haryana), July 4 (Calcutta Tube) A teenaged boy and a girl were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Haryana’s Fatehabad district Sunday morning in a suspected honour killing, police said. A case has been filed against two uncles of the girl.
‘We have received the post-mortem report of the boy and it revealed that he had died due to some internal head injury. But we are still waiting for the post-mortem report of the girl. On the basis of our investigations so far, we have booked two maternal uncles of the girl for killing the couple. Very soon we will arrest them,’ a police official said here late Sunday.
The girl’s body was sent to Chandigarh’s Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research for the autopsy.
Shyam Mohammed and Reena, around 17 to 18 years of age, were found dead in the open fields in Smain village of the district, a local police official said, adding poison tablets were found near their bodies which had no injury marks.
According to police, Shyam and Reena wanted to marry but their families were against the alliance.
Fatehabad is around 300 km from state capital Chandigarh.
Haryana is notorious for honour killings, with two cases being reported last month.
Two teenaged girls were murdered for having a romantic relationship with their cousin in Sonepat town. Three people, including a woman, were arrested.
In another case, a teenaged couple was murdered in a village in Bhiwani district by the girl’s family as the boy and girl were from different gotra (sub-caste) and were planning to marry.
In March this year, a court in Karnal sentenced five people to death for killing a young couple who married in 2007 against the wishes of their community.
