London, Jan 25 (Calcutta Tube) Hollywood actor George Clooney’s Hope For Haiti Now telethon has raised more than $57 million for the earthquake relief effort.
Hollywood’s elite, including Jack Nicholson, Ben Affleck and Mel Gibson, manned telephones during Friday night’s event, while Alicia Keys, Madonna, Beyonce, Bono and Christina Aguilera were amongst the stars who performed live at one of three venues – Los Angeles, New York and London, reported contactmusic.com.
The huge sum raised is a record for telethons according to the Entertainment Industry Foundation and it will be boosted further through the sale of songs performed on the show through iTunes.
Clooney, who donated about $1 million of his own money, said: ‘I hope we made some money out of this. The only way to make this a success is to make a considerable amount of money.’
