Chotila assembly bypoll in Gujarat passes peacefully

About 60 per cent voting was registered in the Chotila Gujarat assembly bye-election, counting for which will take place on Jan 23.

The polling passed off peacefully, officials said here.

Though 15 candidates were in the fray, the main contest was between Nirantben Dhariya of the Congress and Bharat Korani of the BJP with Congress rebel Shamji Chauhan fighting on the Shiv Sena ticket.

Nirantben is the sister of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee executive president Kunwarji Bavaliya while Bharat is the son of Vashram Khorani, whose death due to cardiac arrest, caused the vacancy.
