New Delhi, July 19 (Calcutta Tube) China has backed India’s proposal for collective global solidarity in the fight against international terrorism at a global conference in Geneva.
The preparatory committee of the third World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva Sunday approved the insertion of a new para on terrorism suggested by India in the declaration to be adopted by the World Speakers’ Conference, a statement from the Lok Sabha secretariat said here.
Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, who represented India at the conference, moved the paragraph of terror. China was the first country to support it, the statement said.
The para on terrorism in the declaration moved by India speaks about the seriousness of the threat of terrorism being faced by human kind and the need to show solidarity and collective action, said the Lok Sabha secretariat.
China, while supporting the para, suggested a couple of verbal amendments, which were meant to improve the text.
‘The amendments suggested by China were promptly accepted by India,’ said the Lok Sabha secretariat.
Despite serious differences over bilateral issues like the boundary dispute, India and China have found common ground on global issues and cooperated on climate change.
