Kolkata, December 1, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Ahead of their I-League opener Chirag United maintained good form to trounce Kalighat Club 3-1 on Tuesday at Yuba Bharati Krirangam (YBK) here to move to 4th place at the table of the Sahara Calcutta Football League (CFL) for premier division.
Durand Cup champions surged ahead in the 34 minute with goal from Junior Elija, who was fed by Joshimar off a free kick from Lal Kamal Bhowmick.
After the breather the Subrata Bhattacharya’s side scored two quick goals from Lal Kamal Bhowmick and Jerry in the 48th and 49th minute before Kalighat Club reduced the margin.
KC’s consolation goal came in the 59th minute from Prasenjit Das.
The championship, which lost sheen at this moment after East Bengal bagged the crown last week leaving other clubs to fight for next four places.
Chirag United jagged up to 4th place with 28 points from 15 games, ahead of Mohammedan Sporting’s 26 points for the first time, who have two games to play to complete the fixture.
Only Mohun Bagan have finished the league engagement with 40 points from 16 games, followed by Techno Aryan’s 28 from 12 games.
Kalighat Club collected 17 points from 14 games and are saved from relegation.
Chirag United will play their first I-L match against new promotee AIFF XI at YBK on Saturday.
