Kannada actor Darshan does not get bail

Bangalore, Sept 20 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) A local court on Tuesday rejected bail plea of Kannada actor Darshan, who has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife Vijayalakshmi and child.

City Civil and Session Court judge B R Budihal rejected his bail even as the actor’s wife Vijayalakshmi told the court that she is ready for reconciliation.

Earlier on Sept 13, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court denied him bail. However, Judge Venkatesh Hulagi had said the actor can seek bail in sessions court.

Darshan was arrested by Vijayanagara police on Sept 9 after his wife Vijayalakshmi filed a complaint accusing him of torturing her and her child.

She said Darshan burnt her face with cigarettes, hit her with slippers, bit her ears in fits of rage and threatened to kill her keeping her at gunpoint.

However, later she took back her complaint saying her injuries were due to a slip at the bathroom.

But she could not stop the police from taking Darshan into custody as her First Information Report (FIR) was already registered by then.

The Sandalwood actor was booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 27 of the arms act.

The actor has got himself admitted to a hospital saying he is suffering from uneasiness, physical strain, acidity, asthma and initial stages of jaundice.

Kannada actor Nikita has no more ban for Darshan case

Bangalore, Sept 15 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) The Kannada Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) on Thursday lifted the ban imposed on Kannada actor Nikita Thukral, whose alleged affair with co-actor Darshan led to his marital dispute.

The KFPA told media that the ban was lifted after they realized it would be ‘wrong’ to ban Nikita from acting in films for the next three years.

Leading Kannada actors, including Puneet Rajkumar, Shivarajkumar and Ramesh Aravind and Tara had supported Nikita and pressurized the association to change its decision.

“I am relieved. I am thankful to all my supporters. There should be no ban in the Kannada film industry. It is not good for an actor’s reputation and psychology,” Nikita told reporters on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the actor has issued a media statement where she said: “I am not somebody who wants publicity from injustice done to me, to me my family, friends and fans what they think about me really matters.”

“Everybody knows that what happened is grave injustice to one and all actress by banning me for an act which I am not even aware or responsible for, I would not like to justify myself because the truth is apparent.

“I am really hurt by the entire situation and I would not like to comment any further. I thank at this point everyone that has stood by me especially my fans, artist, and my industry which has always been family to me thank you,” read her statement.

On Tuesday, the association had imposed a three-year ban on Nikita, although it took no action against Darshan, who is currently in jail for allegedly assaulting his wife Vijayalaxmi and child.

Soorappa Babu, secretary of the Association, had told reporters: “Everyone is aware of her (Nikita’s) alleged role in creating problems for Vijayalakshmi. We do not want heroines who create problems between heroes and their wives.”

“We have no problems if she wants to complete the shooting for ‘Sangolli Rayanna’ but she cannot sign new films. We have already informed our members not to engage her as heroine in their films,” said Babu.

Nikita had claimed her innocence and said: “Darshan and I are only good friends. I have a good relation with his wife too. I requested them (Darshan and his wife) to clear these rumours that are affecting my reputation.”

“A few people have claimed that I am very close to Darshan. I am not a close friend of any one in Kannada film industry,” she said.

The actress said she is suffering from high blood pressure due to these allegations.

“The family doctor has said that rest and sleep are very essential for her at this stage. The past six months have been very stressful for our family as we lost our father. Even as we were trying to come to terms with the loss and console our mother, this news hit us. Nikita is very upset about the whole incident,” said her sister Neetu.

Dandam Dashagunam (2011)-Kannada Movie Review

April 21, 2011 (Calcutta Tube): Dandam Dashagunam is a 2011 Kannada movie directed by K. Madesh with Chiranjeevi Sarja, Ramya, Ravishankar and others in the cast. Read the Kannada movie review at Calcutta Tube.

‘Dandam Dashagunam’ – thoroughly disappointing;

Cast: Chiranjeevi Sarja, Ramya, Ravishankar, Thilak, Ravindra and others;

Director: K. Madesh;

Producer: A. Ganesh;

Music Director: Hari Krishna;

Camera: Manohar

Dialogue writer: K.V. Raju;

Rating: * 1/2

It is a tough task to do a remake of any Gautham Menon film, but it is even more difficult to remake a trendsetting film like ‘Khakka Khakka’. Producer A. Ganesh and director Maadesh took a big risk when they decided to remake Menon’s 2003 Tamil hit ‘Khakka Khakka’ as ‘Dandam Dashagunam’.

After watching ‘Dandam Dashagunam’, it will be clear that their risk was not worth a try. What disappoints is insipid and boring narration.

‘Khakka Khakka’ was about an encounter specialist who braves the opposition from human rights activists to take on the hardened criminals. Besides the high voltage drama and action sequences, the film had aesthetically shot romantic track. Unfortunately, ‘Dandam Dashagunam’ does not concentrate on either of the important elements.

It seems that the whole effort is to make a frame to frame copy of the original. The film lacks the punch and intensity of the original and ends up as a wasted effort.

Maadesh doesn’t ensure that the continuity is maintained in the film. He also failed in getting competent performances from the artists.

The main problem with the film is that it drags. To make the matter worse, a trusted composer like Hari Krishna fails to deliver interesting compositions. In several scenes, Hari’s background music mars the impact of good dialogue deliveries. Even Manohar’s camerawork looks ordinary when compared to the technical work in the original.

But the flaws cannot take away efforts of Chiranjeevi Sarja, who has done a competent job. Though his voice has been dubbed by actor Naveen Krishna and has marred the impact of his performance mildly, he still makes a mark.

Ravishankar, who plays sthe villain, electrifies the audience whenever he appears on the screen. Chiru should have taken care to maintain his looks.

Surya is a daring cop who is determined to weed away hardened criminals in his area. Surya and his group of sharpshooters kill many gangsters. He wins people’s support, but Human Rights are against him. He comes across a teacher, Maaya, and instantly falls for her.

‘Dandam Dashagunam’ is a flawed film but Chiranjeevi and Ravishankar make sincere efforts to salvage the film. Ramya, who gave an outstanding performance in ‘Sanju Weds Geetha’, looks subdued. Tilak looks good, but all other artists do not make any impact.

Despite its flaws, ‘Dandam Dashagunam’ is worth one watch for Ravi Shankar and Chiranjeevi.
