Tapan Sinha (Bengali: তপন সিন্হা), born in Kolkata on 2nd October 1924, is a well respected Bengali Indian film director. He is arguably the most uncompromising filmmaker outside the orbit of parallel cinema. His awe-inspiring body of work can possibly be matched by only a Mrinal Sen or a Satyajit Ray. Tapan Sinha’s works have won 19 National Film Awards in various categories. His films have also won laurels in International Film Festivals of Berlin, Venice, London, Moscow, San Francisco, Locarno, Cork Festival in Ireland Kampuchea and Seoul. He has also served as a member of the jury in film festivals at Tashkent and San Francisco among others. Although he is primarily based in the Bengali film industry, he has also made films in different languages like Hindi and Oriya in the past. His wife was another famous Bengali Indian actress Arundhati Devi. Their son is notable Indian scientist Professor Anindya Sinha.

Trijama, featuring the greatest couple in Bengali Film Industry - “Uttam-Suchitra” was presented by Sunrise Films. This film was directed by famous “Agradoot”. I can’t recall any “bad” movies by Agradoot. Agradoot also produced many movies featuring Uttam Kumar. They always chose Uttam Kumar is the leading actors while changing the actress. However they were most successful in movies feauring “Uttam- Suchitra” such as “Pathe Holo Deri”, “Bipasha”, “Agni Pariksha”, they also directed all time blockbuster bengali comedy like “Chadmabeshi” and “Nayika sangbad.

However, we have too powerful starcast in this movie, the storyline is weak. At least I do not consider this one as an example of Uttam Kumar movie! Well it is still better than some of Uttam Movies with Mala Sinha. The best bengali film by Mala Sinha was with Kishore Kumar in Lukochuri. I don’t recall any other bengali cinema by Mala Sinha that cought my attention. Well, you will still love to see the movie just because there are too many people who can nover act bad. For example - Tulsi Chakrabarty, Chhabi Biswas, Pahadi Sanyal! Well others did good job too but simply not the best by either Uttam Kumar or Mala Sinha. The story is based on poverty and struggle of two young fella. Well.. you watch it and tell us the rest!!

Review: This movie is all about the relationship between Sabitri and her father in law Chhabi Biswas. Chabi Biswas always wanted to have a fair skinned lady for his elder son Basanta Chowdhury. Due to some unavoidable situation created by Bikash Roy, Basanta Chowdhury had to marry Sabitri irrespective of her dark skin color. Chhabi Biswas was very unhappy to see the Sabitri. Sabitri, however, with her numerous good skils soon able to win the heart of her father in law. Unfortunately she was illiterate. When Basanta Chowdhury came to know about the fact, she left Sabitri and went abroad. Sabitri started learning from Biswajeet and Sandhya Roy (Her Sister). Bhanu Banerjee Played the role of elder brother of Sabitri. The chemistry between Sandhya Roy and Biswajeet is classic. Pahari Sanyal is cool as always and played a small role of family doctor. A great movie for all.
