Bulk SMS, MMS ban extended by govt. till Oct 1

New Delhi, Sep 30 (Calcutta Tube) The government has extended the ban on bulk Short Message Services (SMS) and Multi-media Messaging Services (MMS) in the country for a day till Oct 1, hours ahead of the Ayodhya title suit verdict Thursday.

‘The ministry of communications and informations technology last evening issued orders in consultation with the ministry of home affairs to all mobile telecom service providers in the country that all bulk SMS and all bulk MMS messages shall remain banned in all service areas till Oct 1,’ an official statement said Thursday.

Earlier, the ban was till Sep 24 to check the spread of rumours or hateful messages, which was later extended till Sep 30 after the Supreme Court deferred the Ayodhya verdict for a week.
