Kolkata, Oct 9, 2010 (Calcutta Tube/ IBNS): Birla High School for Boys on Friday won the Kolkata city finals of the Limca Book of Records Quiz 2010 held at South City International School, Kolkata.
The participants from the winning school in Kolkata will now compete with the winners from 80 other schools in the semifinals.
Not far behind, National Gems Higher Secondary School emerged as the runners up.
Around 424 students from 76 schools participated from Kolkata out of which six schools, including Apeejay School Park Street, Birla High School for Boys, Don Bosco Park Circus, National Gems HS School and Heritage School, competed in the city finals.
The winning team was felicitated by Kshitij Bhatnagar, Marketing Manager, Coca-Cola India, Kolkata.
The multicity quiz initiative has been launched in partnership with noted quizmaster Derek O’ Brien’s ‘Know & Grow with Derek’ organisation and involves participation of students from class 8 to12.
As part of the initiative, the series of quiz competitions are being organised across 3500 schools across 100 cities divided into four zones – North, South, East and West.
The quiz is being organised in three stages – Inter-school level, Semi-Finals & National Finals from April to December, 2010.
The national finals for the quiz will be held by O’ Brien himself whose organisation provided the entire database including content, research material and quiz.
O’Brien said “Limca Book of Records Quiz is a great platform to impart knowledge, to promote learning and help young minds Know & Grow. Such initiatives help in inspiring and motivating today’s youth.”
