Bhabani Sen Gupta dies at 89

New Delhi, Jan 18 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Political commentator, writer and novelist Bhabani Sen Gupta died here on Tuesday.

The 89-year-old veteran scholar breathed his last at the Apollo Hospital after prolonged illness.

Sen Gupta, also known as Chanakya Sen, penned many books on political affairs, including the “Rajiv Gandhi: A Political Study”.

Former Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral had appointed him as an officer on special duty, which backfired.

A day after he took charge at the PMO, Sen Gupta, specialised in foreign affairs, resigned, following protests over his appointment in the Lok Sabha.

Sen Gupta wrote several novels, including “Rajpath Janpath” and “Mukkho Mantri” (chief minister).

A respected and influential political commentator on international affairs, most notably on Southeast Asia and Indo-American relations, Sen Gupta authored over 15 books in English.
