Kolkata, Oct 27 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) In the later half of 19th century, when most of the women veiled themselves behind Purdah, Prafullo aka came with a new aura of woman. A new Bengali mega serial ‘Profullo’ based on Devi Chowdhurani’s life and times, will be aired on Rupasi Bangla channel from Nov 7.
Novelist Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay penned the exciting saga of Profullo, a female dacoit who fought against oppressions and chose being ascetic over materialistic in her life.
Prafulla emerges as a leader of people, a queen yet a saint, almost a goddess in her air, benevolence and wrath. Hence Bhabani calls her “Devi Chaudhurani” – The Goddess Queen
The mega serial will be a tribute to the women of all ages. A press conference was held here on Monday for the launch of this mega serial.
A little girl walked into the stage of the Chrome Hotel as the music of ‘Vandemataram’ could be heard in the backdrop and slowly the family members appear a little girl into a world of darkness only to drive her to the world of darkness.
However, a matured Profullo emerged from the darkness as ‘Dakatrani’ and the family members cowered before her.
The entire star cast, including newcomer Diya Chatterjee who plays the protagonist Profullo, her husband Brojeswar played by Biswajit, and Horobollobh played by Kunal Padhi, were present at the press conference here on Monday.
Director Sonjoy Guha, script writer Orijit Biswas, producer Mallika Jalan and Grammy award winner Bikram Ghosh, who has scored the music for Profullo, were present at the event and shared their experiences related with the serial.
The director was very optimistic about his serial and said that the audience will surely like it a lot as it serves something different to them.Bikram Ghosh said, “It is an informative, lavish and entertaining serial as it holds our culture and history.”
He also said that while doing the music he have only used Indian instruments as it’s a historical serial and Indian instruments go well with this genre.
Diya Chatterjee said that she is quite nervous and even excited about her performance and wishes to conquer the heart of the audiences soon.
She said that she got the jitters of her life when she gave her first shot but director Sonjoy Guho did everything to make her feel comfortable.
Sonjoy on the other hand exclaimed that he had no second choice for the role of ‘Profullo’ and that Diya was his best bet.
Ace directors, like Satyajit Ray, Rituporno Ghosh and Pradeep Sarkar thought of making Devi Chowdhurani with renowned actors but the film never happened and their dreams remain unfulfilled. Hence the serial will be a tribute to all the three legends, said the makers.
