Calcutta Tube (May 28): Raj Chakraborty’s latest Bengali movie Ley Chakka (A.K.A LE CHAKKA) has shot a couple of song sequences in Sri Lanka to insist on ‘difference’ from other Bangla films. Le Chakka, produced by Srijan Arts Private Limited, has hit pair Dev and Payal Sircar in the lead with a strong supporting cast led by Dipankar De, Laboni Sirkar, Debjani Chatterjee, Biswajit Chakraborty, Ritwik Chakraborty, Kharaj Mukherjee and Biswajit Basu. “This is the first time for a Bangla film to be shot in Sri Lanka,” says the strapping young director Raj who brings out a box office hit with every film he directs. But the heat was unbearable at 50 to 55 degrees Celsius made worse by the fact that the lead pair had to do dance numbers after rigorous rehearsals. Music director Indradeep Dasgupta has roped in a glamorous array of playback singers ranging from Kunal Ganjawalla to Shreya Ghoshal and Monali. The script authored by Padmanabha Dasgupta places the story and the characters in a North Calcutta neighbourhood zeroing on the adventures and politics that rule ‘para’ cricket in the area. A typical south Kolkata dude shifts to Dorjipara in North Kolkata. The stark difference in culture makes his life hell made worse when he falls in love with the landlord’s niece. Somak Mukherjee is D.O.P. and Rabiranjan Maitra has edited the film. Judo Ramu is the fight master while D. Sankaraiyya has done the choreography. Le Chakka is slated for a mid-June release.
