Bengal Badminton Academy sponsors young badminton players in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 5 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): Bengal Badminton Academy (BBA) in association with YONEX on Thursday, May 5, 2011 in Kolkata announced that they will sponsor  the five top junior badminton players from West Bengal. Veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee was present at the event.
Bengal Badminton Academy, the force behind the Gopichand East Zone Badminton School, launched the scheme to sponsor top junior badminton players of West Bengal.

With am aim of nurturing the young talents of the state, BBA is all set to sponsor 16 top shuttlers in the state.
The top five players who were awarded the YONEX knitting and the sponsorship on Thursday were: Shouvik Ghosh (Under 16 Boys state singles champion and India ranked 5), Arintap Dasgupta (under 13 State Badminton Champion  and India ranked 4), Sanchali Dasgupta (UBder 19 State ranked 3), Anuria Das (under 16 state ranked 3) and Mayukh Ghosh (under 16 State ranked 3).

Top Badminton game accessories supplier, Yonex, has joined hands with BBA and will provide badminton gears along with a monthly cash sponsorship to the top players.

“We feel there is a serious void in terms of both facilities and sponsorship in games like badminton in the state. There is no dearth of talents in our state. With proper guidance and facilities they can become another Pullela Gopichand or Saina Nehwal.” Subrata Gupta from BBA said.
“By providing this sponsorship to these players we want to make sure that they don’t face any financial obstacles in achieving their dreams,” Gupta said.

“I am really happy to receive this award today and I am really motivated to perform better in the future tournaments,” young Shouvik Ghosh said.

The five member selection committee who selected the young players for this scholarship include names like former Badminton player Subrata Banerjee, Bablu Barua, Soumen Bhattacharjee, Sanjay Ray, Debanjan Majumdar.

The total budget for the sponsorship programme is Rs. 3,00,000 per annum.
