Doha, Jan 11 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS) Indian captain Baichung Bhutia, who is struggling with a calf muscle injury, remains doubtful for their Friday’s match against Bahrain in the Asian Cup football tournament.
After a practice session, coach Bob Houghton said: “I still don’t know if Bhaichung would be fit for second match or not. But there is still time to know if he can play.”
“We hope that he would get fit for the last league match against South Korea,” Houghton said.
Baichung hoped he can play against Bahrain.
“I am trying to be fit for the Bahrain match. I am hoping to play but let us see,” said the 34-year-old skipper.
Bhutia had a light training session with the reserve players while those who played against Australia Monday were given a day off.
“National team will have to improve if you want to improve the profile of Indian football. When the national team becomes successful, the interest in football will follow it,” said Houghton.
