Kolkata, Nov 25 (Calcutta Tube/IBNS) Maruti will not shift their Manesar plant from Haryana to Gujarat and instead they will start a new plant in the western state, said Haryana Governor Jagarnnath Pahadia on Wednesday.
The recent 14- day long strike in Maruti’s Manesar plant in Haryana had fuelled the news of shifting this plant to Gujarat.
Pahadia said on the sidelines of an interactive session organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) that the recent news of shifting the Manesar plant of Maruti From Haryana to Gujarat is wrong.
“Instead of that they will start a new plant in Gujarat and Manesar plant will remain there,” he said.
From the recent report it has been found that due to continuous strike and competition, the country’s top carmaker’s market share has dipped significantly in last two years.
It slipped almost by 9% to 41.2 % at the end of the April- October period of this fiscal from a commanding 50% at the end of 2009-10.
For the future expansion of manufacturing facilities Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSZIL) Board of Directors had already granted approval to purchase land in the Mehsana district in Gujarat.
On the land acquisition issue, the governor said, “Land acquisition is a very serious issue. Haryana is a small state and we have limited land for industrialization because agriculture is our main focus.”
“But the land policy formulated by state government is excellent and it was praised by many states,” he said.
