Arun Jaitley declines to comment on Raja

New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS) Though he had earlier attacked the government and the DMK’s A. Raja over the 2G spectrum allocation row, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley on Monday declined to comment on Raja stepping down as the communications and IT minister.

‘The party will react (on Raja) … I do not have any comment to make,’ said Jaitley on the sidelines of the India Economic Summit here.

Earlier, the BJP leader had lambasted the ruling United Progressive Alliance and the former telecom minister and claimed the government has created an infrastructure for a cover-up.

‘There is a pliable CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) and a pliable CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation). It has no concern for probity or accountability,’ said Jaitley.

He also alleged that Raja’s decisions on 2G spectrum allocation had caused heavy loss to the exchequer. Referring to the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report, he said it confirmed the allegations against Raja.

After adamantly refusing to resign, Raja quit the cabinet late Sunday night, ending an opposition-Congress standoff that had paralysed parliament the past five days.
