Chandigarh, June 21 (Calcutta Tube) Indian Army Chief Gen. V.K. Singh Monday reviewed the operational preparedness of the frontier Western Command at its headquarters in the adjacent Chandimandir cantonment.
General Singh arrived here on a two-day visit, his first after becoming the army chief. He was received at the cantonment, 15 km from here, by the Western Command General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Lt. Gen. S.R. Ghosh.
Senior army officers were present at the meetings.
An army spokesman said that Gen. Singh is being briefed about the operational preparedness, training and administrative matters of the frontier command.
He will meet with senior army officers individually, the spokesman added.
The Western Command looks after the border along Pakistan in Punjab and Rajasthan and the hilly border with China in Himachal Pradesh.
Besides meeting army veterans, including former top army officials residing here and nearby areas, the army chief will also meet the governors and chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana respectively, the spokesman added.
