Indrani Halder Talks about Angshumaner Chhobi
Indrani Halder, the National Award Winning actress from Kolkata, talks to CalcuttaTube about Angshumaner Chhobi and her role as Madhura in the film and her experience working with Soumitra Chatterjee, Atanu Ghosh and more. We wish great success for Angshumaner Chhobi. Watch the trailer of Angsumaner Chhobi and check out the EXCLUSIVE interview with Indrani Halder at CalcuttaTube.

Calcutta Tube: You are portraying the character of an actress in ‘Angshumaner Chhobi’. Does it become easier to act in the role an actress, since you are an actress in real life?
Indrani Halder: Being an actress in real life, I am well acquainted with the attributes of an actress and some of the sequences I am acting in, may have been true in reality. But actress Indrani Halder and the character Madhura are two different persons and they have different attitudes and philosophies about life. The only similarities they have are in their professions.

Calcutta Tube: You have previously worked with director Atanu Ghosh in his telefilms. ‘Angshumaner Chhobi’ is the first feature film by Atanu Ghosh and this is the first time you are working together in a feature film. Please share your experience working with him in the feature film?
Indrani Halder: The canvas of a telefilm is totally different than that of a feature film. A feature film has a much larger canvas. All works of Atanu Ghosh focus on relationships and convey some philosophy about life. Atanu has put a lot of effort in ‘Angshumaner Chhobi’ to distinguish its canvas from that of a telefilm. A lot of times when telefilm directors have made feature films, there have been instances where they have not always been able to maintain the proper canvas. I think Atanu has done a great job as far as the canvas of a telefilm is concerned. ‘Angshumaner Chhobi‘ has been  made keeping the big screen in mind, in terms of making, presentation and subject.

Calcutta Tube: You have worked with Soumitra Chattopadhyay in many of your films before and also in ‘Angshumaner Chhobi’. Please share your experience working with the legendary actor.
Indrani Halder: It is always a fantastic experience working with Soumitra Chattopadhyay. There are so many learning situations for me when working with him. The passion he puts into his roles even at this age amazes us. I doubt if I could be that way when I reach his age. And the biggest thing is that even today he would ask us if the shot he gave was all right. This is what I would call the generosity of an artist. He has a big heart.

Calcutta Tube: You have worked in telefilms, TV serials, feature films. What is your favorite medium?
Indrani Halder: I so not have a favorite medium as such. I have enjoyed working in each medium. Every medium has its own advantages. The television is an easy and fast medium to reach to the audience. Television also offers more advantages of experimentations. Films have an archival value and can reach out to the national and international audience. A feature film offers different kind of a canvas and has its own charm. As an artist I think getting recognition in a medium is more important than the medium itself. I love working in all these media.

Calcutta Tube: Does working in the television medium snatch away the stardom of being on the silver screen?
Indrani Halder: I do not think it applies for me in the least way, since I started my acting career from the television. My works for the television brought me the opportunities of working on the silver screen. I have been working in feature film for the last 22 years. I work just as much as I want to. I do not crave for more than what I am doing, and I also have strict preferences. And I am working for television, apart my whatever else I do. Television has brought me international fame. I reached the international audience through the Sony TV program ‘Sujata’. I have achieved a lot working in the Bengali film industry, but the Hindi TV has helped me being acclaimed internationally. I have never taken television lightly. And I also do not believe in stardom. I believe in good work. That is the only way to reach out the audience and make a parmanent place in their hearts. The most important thing is to reach out to the audince, no matter whatever medium you are working in. Working in a feature film does not provide any kind of assurance of making a strong place in the minds of the audience. There are so many not-so-good films made that people do not even watch. And there a plethora of good television works and tv actors who are far more acclaimed and loved by the audience. So the work is more important thanthe medium.

Calcutta Tube: You have worked both in Mumbai and Kolkata. How is Bollywood different from the Bengali film industry.
Indrani Halder: Bollywood is much bigger than the Bengali film industry in certain aspect. Bollywood has more money, bigger canvas and recognition. But Bengal is far ahead as far as creativities are concerned which every Bollywood person agree upon. Even our regional Bengali programs reflect much more talents than theirs in each and every department. I feel very proud when they show respect towards our rich cultural heritage.
