London, July 24 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse, known for her powerful contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of various musical genres, was found dead Saturday in her London home, police said. She was 27.
Even though Police confirmed that Winehouse was pronounced dead at the home in Camden Square northern London, the cause of her death has been described as “unexplained”.
[ReviewAZON asin=”B000YAX3P0″ display=”inlinepost”]The news release from Metropolitan Police did not specify Winehouse by name, but said, “Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05 hours today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.”
“On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries continue into the circumstances of death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained,” it added.
Born in 1983 to taxi driver Mitch Winehouse and his pharmacist wife Janis, Winehouse’s distinctive musical career was overshadowed by her self-destructive habits.
The musician, whose brand of music was a curious amalgamation of genres including R&B, soul, and jazz, was set on a showbiz career from an early age but it was her erratic stage appearances, drunken fights, stints in hospital and rehab clinics that stuck on most tabloid frontpages.
Winehouse , who had shot to fame with her 2006 album ‘Back to Black’ that even earned her five Grammys cementing her name as an international star, canceled her European tour last month, and has long struggled with substance abuse, MTV News said.
