August 22, Kolkata (Calcutta Tube): Actress June Maliah is best known for adding X-factor to her films. But at the moment, she is excited more about forthcoming Durga Puja, than films. IBNS correspondent Gourav Mukherjea catches up with the Bong beauty after she walked the ramp for Rene’s latest leather collection in Kolkata
Why did you agree to walk the ramp to showcase leather products?
It’s my craving for party bags that brought me here. (Laughs)
Again, it’s not only leather accessories, but ethnic wear for the forthcoming Durga Puja as well. And I love shopping. The Panjabi collection, with embroidery of zari and thread work, are very fancy and should be hot cakes in this Puja.
What kind of ethnic wear do you prefer?
I prefer salwars….but love sarees too.
What will be your choice in sarees for this Durga Puja?
Right now, any saree of vibrant colour with a touch of flamboyance in it will be my choice.
According to you which is the most utilitarian garment for a lady? and why?
I think salwar is one of the best utilitarian garment for a lady. It can be worn anywhere, any place, any occasion- from office to a wedding reception. And yes, jeans of course.
Now-a-days it has become a day-to-day wear.
Have you started your Puja shopping? What is June Maliah’s style statement for this Puja?
I haven’t started my Puja shopping yet. But for this Puja, my style statement is of course a saree. Saree is a kind of garment that can always be a style statement. Every year I buy a lot of sarees and I change twice or thrice every day during the Puja. One can find brand new sarees still left in my cupboard that I bought for last year’s Durga Puja.
What are your plans for this Puja?
Right now, no plans have been fixed. But yes, this year i will stay in Kolkata as my cousins are coming from abroad. We have a blast when all of us get together. We indulge in ‘adda’ (rendezvous) and more ‘adda’.
