April 5, 2010 (Calcutta Tube): Actor Vikrum Kumar talks about the Hindi movie Kuchh Kariye that also stars singer Sukhwinder Singh. Read the interview at CalcuttaTube.
Vikrum Kumar already has two films to his credit – Karan Razdan’s Souten and Arshad Khan’s Trump Card. He has also done a music video ‘Velocity’ with T-Series. Both films had Vikrum playing the proverbial hero. He is out to prove his histrionics once again in Jagbir Dahiya directed Hindi feature film Kuchh Kariye. This film is also the debut film as lead for Sukhwinder Singh.
Vikrum is adventurous at heart. Sky diving at 15000 ft up in the air from a flying jet is no mean feat and the actor has been bestowed with a Bravery Award by New Zealand Tourism board because he managed to do this without professional training. But this apart,
Having two films to your credit already, bagging Kuchh Kariye was easy, right?
I guess, yes! My secretary learnt that Jabir Dahiya, the producer and director, was looking out for an actor to play an important role in the film. I was apprehensive initially because this was Dahiya’s first film. I read the bound script nevertheless and got convinced. That is how I became part of this film. And believe me, Dahiyaji has been a thorough professional.
What is your character all about?
I am playing Javed, a freelance writer, who wants to change the world by the power of words. He strongly believes in the adage – ‘Pen is mightier than sword’. He is a thinker like Baba Bulleshah and wants to change the system. He wants the people to believe in humanity and make the peaceful.
How was working with Sukhwinder Singh?
Great! Our Punjabi roots bonded us. He is absolutely down earth and an amazing person to work with. Sukhwinder is well versed with technical aspects of filmmaking and used to often give suggestion on the lighting and the camera angles on the sets. He used to also guide me by telling me how I should face the camera. He used to pay heed to my suggestions too. “Arre Vikrum ne bola hai to aisi hi karunga,” he would say. During those moments I used to find him to be like a child eager to learn and listen. I have already worked in three films and Sukhwinder respected the experience that I had.
Any incident that you cannot forget…
Yes! The over one hour singing sessions we had daily with Sukhwinderji after pack up. He has sung over 120 songs and we used to ask him to sing them all. It was during this shooting that Jai Ho won an Oscar. We celebrated its success with Sukhwinder. It was moment of joy for all of us.
What’s your expectation from the film?
I have done commercial films and this is one of them too. But the role I am playing in Kuchh Kariye is very serious about a guy on a powerful mission and against all politicians and religious gurus like Pujari, Padri, and mullah sahib. It’s very intense, massage oriented, friendship and full of entertainment film.
Which are your upcoming projects?
Well, something big has come my way but will talk about it only after an officially announcement is made by the makers.
Tell us about your co stars?
They are all fun to be with. Rufy, Shriya Narayan and Khuahhish are young and we would play pranks.
