Kolkata, Mar 2 (Calcutta Tube / IBNS): The ‘Avon Cycles India Cyclothon’ in Kolkata was announced at a press conference here on Thursday. Tollywood actor Hiran Chatterjee, Rishi Pahwa, Director of Avon Cycle Ltd, Satish Menon, CEO of Sport18 and Bani Ghosh, national champion and member of Cycle Federation of India(CFI), were present at the event.
Avon cycle, one of the largest manufacturers and exporters from India, and Sport18, the sports marketing division of the Network18 group, bring to Kolkata India’s one of the biggest cycling event-Avon Cycles India Cyclothon.
Speaking on the occasion, Hiran said, “It is a great initiative and a good opportunity for us and I will participate in this cyclothon.”
“Cycles are pollution free, economical and it keeps the body fit. When I was making my eight-pack abs, I used to do a lot of cycling,” Hiran added.
The logo of Avon Cycles India Cyclothon was unveiled at the event.
In the Cyclothon, there will be a Natioanal Elite Men’s Race, organized by CFI where around 200 top cyclists and national level cyclists will be participating and winner will be richer by a prize money of Rs 5 Lakh.
Apart from that there will be four mass ride categories- Amateur Ride, Corporate Ride, Green Ride and Parle G Junior Ride, where common people can participate.
Avon Cycles India Cyclothon was started in 2008 and has already taken place across cities of Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chandigarh and now for the first time it will take place in Kolkata.
India Cyclothon will be held on Mar 18, 2012.
